Hace una semana aproximadamente, una noticia sacudió los medios de comunicación.
El motivo de la Noticia: Un supuesto ataque dirigido por parte del gobierno chino hacia Google, Adobe, Juniper y otras 29 empresas con sucursales en China.
El objetivo principal del ataque: supuestamente por parte del gobierno chino era obtener información confidencial de activistas de los Derechos Humanos en China.
Vector de ataque: Explotación de vulnerabilidad desconocida en Internet Explorer del Lado de Cliente ( Client-Side Exploitation).
Vunerabilidad explotada: Referencia a puntero inválido en Internet Explorer 6, 7 y 8 que permite ejecución remota arbitraria de código.
Nombre asignado al ataque: Aurora IE Exploit
Se llegó a identificar equipos y cuentas de usuarios que laboraban en estas empresas con información confidencial comprometida. Pero según Google no fueron más de 2 ó 3 cuentas comprometidas.
El equipo de Metasploit en tiempo récord ya ha logrado reproducir las condiciones de ataque y el correspondiente código de explotación - que según describe McAffee - es el mismo que se identificó en la investigación.
Y gracias a los amigos de http://praetorianprefect.com que han hecho un video que muestra cómo inicialmente los crackers consiguieron acceso a las redes corporativas de Google y los demás afectados.
En el video se muestra a Metasploit configurar una sessión a la escucha, y configurar un servidor web que hospeda el código malicioso, espera la visita inocente del usuario hacia el sitio web, lanza el ataque que explota la vulnerabilidad de Internet Explorer y abre una conexión hacia la computadora del atacante. Una vez obtenida la sesión, el atacante ya tiene el control de la máquina, puede listar procesos, terminarlos (en el video de ejemplo se cierra el proceso del Notepad.exe). Se usa Internet Explorer versión 6, ya que Microsoft referencia que éste fue usado en los ataques sobre estas compañías. Tampoco se descarta la explotación exitosa de esta vulnerabilidad sobre las versiones posteriores como lo son Internet Explorer 8 y 9.
Este ataque puede haber llegado por medio de correos electrónicos incitando al usuario a visitar ciertos sitios web que alojaban el código malicioso en javascript, y éste apuntaba a un puntero inválido e inyecta la shellcode que contiene el código arbitrario a ser ejecutado.
Lección repetida: La seguridad en el lado del cliente necesariamente requiere la ecuación: (Conocimiento+Entrenamiento)+Sentido común.

Amigos, en esta oportunidad publico un video en el cual muestro la ejecución, análisis y desinfección en tiempo real del virus Blazebot que se propaga vía MSN enviando mensajes a los contactos de mensajería instantánea a.k.a. MSN y también por Memorias USB.
En este caso teniendo una muestra que conseguí, ejecuté el virus en una máquina virtual y en otras 3 máquinas virtuales que serían los contactos del infectado 0 (”cero”) ( Porque es el que inicia la infección en la Ecuación ).
Creo que el video está lo suficientemente explicado de modo que sólo hay algunos puntos que aclarar.
1. Hice uso de 4 máquinas virtuales usando VirtualBox (Excelente programa de virtualización y GRATIS!). 2. Creé varias cuentas de MSN para cada máquina.
Máquina Virtual Infectado 0 (”cero”), el que inicia la infección.
Máquina Virtual Víctima Inicial, primera Victima, y usa el navegador Internet Explorer versión 6.0
Máquina Virtual Segunda Víctima, contacto de la Víctima inicial y cuyo navegador es Mozilla Firefox v. 3.5
Máquina Virtual Tercera Víctima, contacto de la Víctima inicial y cuyo navegador es Internet Explorer v. 8.
3. Este malware se caracteriza especialmente por redirigir a una página que supuestamente tiene una IMAGEN, pero en realidad contiene código JavaScript que intenta explotar una vulnerabilidad de los navegadores en el tratamiento de IFRAMEs de modo que con solo visualizar el sitio web se descargue y se ejecute el malware de forma automática.
De este modo con el solo hecho de hacer click en el mensaje recibido puede que ya te infectes, sólo depende del navegador que uses. Así que mejor ni hagas click en los mensajes que te llegan, si tu navegador es vulnerable, TE INFECTARÁS!.

Señores, sé que no suele pasar, pero a veces por alguna extraña razón deseamos entrar a una cuenta de una PC en Linux y nos damos con la sorpresa de que no tenemos el usuario o la contraseña o que peor aún la olvidaste! (Créanme, sí pasa).
Debería funcionar para cualquier distribución de Linux que uses: Ubuntu, Debian, Slackware, Gentoo, Mandriva, etc.

Amigos, los ataques de inyección SQL existen y permiten ejecutar código SQL en los servidores desde un navegador web. Este problema se debe a que muchas veces las entradas no se validan de modo que servidor al encontrar caracteres que no se validan terminan su secuencia normal y ejecutan el código inyectado.
Ejemplo:
